Photography has always been a common theme throughout Karen’s past experiences and has nurtured her creativity. Although she has used film cameras in the past, Karen’s work is mostly digital. Her work is largely architectural and looks at documenting and recording the passing of time and the histories of buildings and landscapes.
Fascinated by the patterns and formations to be found in architectural structures, Karen’s latest work explores the Art Deco movement. She explores the futuristic style and the decorative and colourful geometric shapes on the building facades. Unfortunately some buildings are lost to demolition, however Karen’s work aims to capture and preserve these bold structures, not only in appreciation of their aesthetic design, but also as a contribution to history and heritage.
